Prescription Painkillers

-Two million Americans use prescription opioid painkillers each year.

-Among youths ages 12-17, the incident rate increased from 6.3 to 32.4 per 1000 new users from 1990 to 1998.

-Vicodin, OxyContin, and Percocet are some of the more common opioid painkillers.

  1. It's always strange to me that people abuse prescription drugs so heavily, its incredible to see how high that percentage really is, especially in teenagers. I think it's important for us to be aware of that though.

  3. No I think some are with prescription. I mean no matter what they have to be prescribed to someone but it is quite often not their own prescription when they are abused.

  4. It is wierd to think of the increase of teenagers that are taking perscription drugs. I wonder why that statisitic is increasing and continuing to increase. Is it because the drugs are now more easily accessible or more teenagers are aware of it?
